Hello friends!
I recently returned from a short trip to Greece and despite being sad for leaving behind family, friends and a beautiful country, I have to admit that it’s always nice to be back home!
Everything looks lovely here in my home in Houston, Texas ~ everything but the entryway. It suddenly felt dark and tired and not so much within my summery and light mood. It’s only the beginning of August, summer is not going away for a while so it’s not too late for a few temporary changes.
A while back, I shared this same entryway and how I put it together spending less than $100, including the console table.
Today, I switched the wall art and the decorative pieces with others that I already had around the house. I haven’t done the math yet, but I’m pretty sure that this new set-up will add-up to about $100.
Let’s see:
The console table was only $10 and was purchased from a garage sale when we lived in Westport, CT. The owner had not listed it for sale as he was using it for his tools and coffee and as a “cash register”. The upper surface was in a pretty bad condition and that’s probably why I got it for such a low price. The owner hadn’t realized that it was those trestle legs that stole my heart.
The modern piece of art was $5 and looked nothing like that when I bought it. Check here for this easy diy.
The pineapple lamp was a thrift shop find ($12 – it still has the original price tag ~ $275!!) and the lampshade ($19) was a plain black one that I lined with metallic gold wrapping paper five years ago.
The two white lacquered boxes are from The Container Store, both for $35 and are sold plain. I adorned one of them with a metallic fox terrier (which is actually a bottle opener) with this diy, and the second one with a seahorse drawer pull, both from Anthropologie ($4 and $6 respectively).
The cigar ashtray was a business present from my times in the corporate world, many years ago. It’s part of the Tsitouras Collection, a magnificent hotel in Santorini, Greece, that has also developed a few luxurious (jewelry, home and business) items, all marked with their famous laurel wreath.
The glass sphere is also a present that I cherish ~ this one is from my sister. She bought it in Greece and it has travelled with us throughout our moves all these years.
The silver plated vase with the Greek key detail was a thrift shop find around $8. The greenery is from my garden’s philodendron.
Well, It think that’s about it! The entryway does look much lighter now, and yes, I just did the calculation, and it adds up to less than $100.
