Cute DIY Linen Summer Handbag with Bamboo Handles

Cute DIY Linen Summer Handbag with Bamboo Handles

It’s not often (if ever) that I share fashion related topics, but I would like you to know that I have an eye for fashion and that I follow closely the latest trends. I love watching the Oscars as well as most of the red carpet events for the glamor of the dresses, the hair styles, the makeup and the jewelry. I also spend a lot of time observing more casual looks as well as office-style outfits, mainly on Instagram and in fashion magazines and websites.

As such, back in May, I had spotted this cute handbag that I thought I could make for my daughter ~ she’s in her early twenties. After ordering the bamboo handles online here, I started searching for a metallic fabric that would be similar to my inspiration. But my daughter insisted on a more casual handbag that would match most of her summer outfits – she preferred a handbag that she would carry all day long, from morning to evening. White linen was perfect, we thought.

So… with these two items and with my basic sewing skills,

I made this cute summer handbag:

For those of you who are experienced in sewing, you wouldn’t need any instructions from me.

But for those who happen to have a sewing machine and don’t use it as much, this makes for a super easy beginners project as there’s nothing more to it than attaching two pieces of fabric together. It does get a little complicated when adding the handles, but it’s like sewing a hem, only wider, and with an obstacle (the handle that gets in the way), nothing too difficult, really.

The linen part of the bag is about 12″ x 14″ which makes it the ideal size to fit a large wallet, plus a phone and maybe something more. The handles external diameter is 6.5″.

The addition of the scarf tied around the bamboo handle is the detail that elevates not only the handbag but this entire outfit. My daughter has kept the scarf on the bag for most of her outfits.

I wasn’t going to share this sewing project here, on a home decor blog, but my daughter has truly been loving her new handbag and she’s using it all the time! With such a success, I thought that maybe some of you would like to make one, too!
