The Easiest Apple Pie You’ll Ever Make

The Easiest Apple Pie You’ll Ever Make

If you know how to slice an apple, then you’re all set!  Because that is the only skill required to make this super easy and fast apple pie.  With a crunchy crust and layers of thinly sliced caramelized apples, you will impress family, friends and guests with a delicate taste that will remind you of the famous French Tarte Tatin, but with none of the hard work that goes with the original recipe! The preparation takes as long as slicing two apples and melting some butter. Doesn’t this worth a tasty trip to France?

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 large red delicious apples (or 3 small ones)
  • 1 Puff Pastry sheet, (9.5 x 9.5 inches square or about 24 x 24 cm square), thawed in the fridge overnight
  • 4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon cold unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 + 1 tablespoons brown sugar

Preheat oven to 380 degrees F (or 190 degrees C).

Peel and slice apples in wedges about 1/4 inch (or about 5 mm) thick.

In a round pie dish (or any other round baking dish of  approximately 10.5 inches diameter or 27 cm), spread 1/2 tablespoon cold butter on bottom and edges of dish with your hand.

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons brown sugar.

Place the apple slices around the dish, overlapping.

Pour the melted butter and sprinkle the white sugar.

Place the puff pastry sheet on top, cut off the four square edges of the sheet, turn the sheet slightly inside the border of the dish and make plenty of holes using a fork.

Bake for about 25′ or until Puff Pastry is golden.

Carefully, turn the pie upside down onto a larger dish and then place pie back in the pie dish (apples on top).

Turn your oven to broil and move oven rack to the second highest level.

Sprinkle one tablespoon brown sugar on top of the pie, place in the oven and broil until the apples are caramelized.

Serve warm as is, or with whipped cream and/or ice cream.
