Back in 2000, I chose a blue gingham tile for my daughter’s bathroom in our Athens, Greece condo – and I haven’t regretted it for one second. I instantly fell in love with this tile and although I was originally planning on using it to cover the entire bathroom, or maybe the walls around the bathtub, I soon found out that it was discontinued. Nevertheless, there was just enough in stock to allow me to create four rows from the floor and up of this 7¾ inch square tile. For the remaining upper part of the walls, and for the floor, I chose a white tile from the same brand in the same quality & dimension.
Today, seventeen years later, although you can see the signs of an older construction in this bathroom, thanks to the gingham pattern, it still looks modern and fresh ~ the blue gingham pattern has never gone out of style and it gives the space a clean, bright and happy tone!
In the past, gingham was a pattern mostly used on vinyl tablecloths. Nowadays, who hasn’t seen the gingham used in every possible way (textiles, carpets, wallpaper, bedding, clothing, accessories and so much more)? It is interesting and surprising to realize how it can be incorporated in any style! Depending on the shade of blue, the width of the checkered pattern, as well as the surrounding elements, gingham can be used in any one of these styles: rural, French country, cottage, coastal, Scandinavian, traditional, industrial or contemporary. It can look modern, romantic or elegant, and it can vary from babyish to feminine and to totally masculine. Blue gingham is suitable for decor and fashion throughout every one of the four seasons.
I’ve collected some beautiful pictures of blue gingham to inspire you ~ whatever your style, there is always room for a little blue gingham in your life. Enjoy!
